VISION 2020
A 12-year Strategic Plan
for Campbell County
2008 to 2020
Vision 2020 is a community-based effort to create a plan for improving and directing the future of Campbell County. Vision 2020 will be based upon ideas collected at public meetings from citizens of Campbell County. Those ideas will then be refined into specific strategies that will be implemented over the 12 year life of the strategic plan.
Vision 2020 will have a comprehensive, systemic focus in numerous areas that have a direct impact on quality of life in our county. Some plans will build on assets and resources Campbell County already has. Other plans will involve creating citizen councils and task forces to work with local government.
There is no guarantee all plans will be successful. Vision 2020 only guarantees there will be a strong commitment to a concerted effort to define where we are and what we want to be as a county in the future. Vision 2020 will summon forth a new spirit of citizen entrepreneurship and rally our best efforts to make life better for all of us now and for those who come in succeeding generations.

The Vision 2020 Process
First we will engage the process of gathering ideas from every citizen who wants to make a contribution in whatever area of interest they represent individually or as part of a group. Second, we will refine these ideas into strategies and action plans including, importantly, a rationale for supporting each one as a pillar of Vision 2020. Each strategy must have a strategy.

For example, we need to know why should we commit to each individual strategy or action plan proposed. The action steps necessary to implement, the leadership for the implementation, and the cost must also be defined. When we have done these things we will have created a viable, sustainable road map for our county to follow through these early years of the 21st century.

A New Era of Citizen Entrepreneurship
Campbell County is blessed with tremendous beauty and natural resources but its most valuable asset is the people who live in this community. We are people rich with ideas and resources needed to create the county we collectively decide we want to have come the year 2020. But we have to make it happen. If Vision 2020 doesn’t come to life it won’t be because we couldn’t do it but because we choose not to.

For Vision 2020 to be a viable plan for our future the community must have ownership. The strategy must evolve from a web of alliances and partnerships focused on the common goal of improving quality of life in Campbell County. Vision 2020 is a call to action. This is the time to rally our slumbering sense of duty and responsibility to take charge of our own destiny and create a county we can be proud to call home, to have folks visit and to pass along to the people we care about most.
